Myrick's art, from the rich colors to the panel layouts, works on a gut level. It seems so simple, yet it speaks independently of the words, providing a subtext and an emotional nuance that create a sense of the wistful hope of childhood. A fine example of the graphic novel.

—Starred Review in 9/15/06 Booklist

Hilary Sycamore’s coloring in the book is, frankly, sublime – an example of why I love flat palettes so very much, with a tonal scheme that provides the perfect subtle counterpart to Myrick’s accomplished work.

...The script is never overdone or underwritten -- it, like Sycamore’s coloring, provides another layer to the visual storytelling that serves as the centerpiece for this outstanding graphic novel.
